The research center Mech‐Sense at Aalborg University Hospital was founded in 2003. The center focuses on visceral pain and biomechanics utilizing advanced quantitative pain and motility assessment technologies.

The center hosts national and international scientists including doctors, mechanical engineers, pharmacists, mathematicians, pathologists and molecular biologists. The center has two fully equipped human laboratories to perform basic and clinical research, pharmacological research (phase I, II and III studies), brain imaging, signal analysis, inverse modelling of evoked brain potentials, and advanced statistical analysis for data discrimination. The center has extensive experience in clinical trials.
